My recent absence, and a public service announcement.
« on: July 31, 2017, 10:13:48 AM »
Many of you may have not noticed, but I was out of touch with the RCW for the last week.

On Saturday, July 22nd, my nephew, Zachary Grap, took his own life.  He was 25 years old.
My sister Patti, her husband Mike, and Zach's father, also named Mike, are devastated and shattered as are the rest of us.  Zach was always the joker, the knucklehead, the life of the party.  He liked his trucks, burnouts, crappy beer, and country music.  He was loved by everyone he met.

Zach left no note, not one single indication of why he did what he did.  He only left us with memories, and a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.

There were about 400 people at his funeral.  150 cars in the funeral procession that stretched about 5 miles.  He had a full police escort on his journey to his final resting place.  His dad is a Sergeant with the Lawrenceville police Motors department in Georgia.  The brotherhood that he is a part of came to his side.  They loved Zach as one of their own as well.

There were many get-togethers through the week leading up to Zach's funeral.  Every event was full of family and friends who loved Zach and his family.  I met a lot of Zach's friends, and learned about him in ways that I didn't know him before.  I saw nothing but love and support.  I only wish that Zach could have fully understood this love that surrounded him.  I wish that he could have reached out before making this permanent and painful decision.  But most of all, I am sorry that Zach held so much pain in his heart that he felt killing himself was the only way out.

To anyone out there that has ever thought that someone won't understand, or that you are the only one feeling the pain, or if that thought of permanent release is an option.... You are worth help!  You are worthy of a life.  There IS a way to get through.  There ARE people who deeply care for you.  There IS a path to a better life.  You WILL leave a hole that cannot be filled if you leave.
I am one of those people who care, even if we have never met.

There are resources outside of family and friends as well

This picture was taken just a couple months ago.. I think it sums Zach up fairly well.  Yes, he is in a pool, in a pool, paddling with a wiffle ball bat, smoking a Marlboro red.  There is probably a Miller High Life can within reach.

Russ, my thoughts are with you and your family. Thank you for posting this, as many may need a reminder. If anyone has noticed the tattoo on my wrist, it is memory for those that I have lost from self harm. The semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you, and the sentence is your life. There is always someone to talk to and help you through your struggles.
